| Like most of us it all started back in Wildcard. For me though that's when it ALL started. I was 12 years old when I first met Gary, and had by all means no interest in music. Didn't get interested til' I was 14. That's when I first picked up a bass. (All thanks to Norm.) Though I didn't really see a future with it. Later on I was more serious with it and played my very first gig as a bass player at the age of 16. It was at Club 21 up in Uhland. Very exciting time. After that gig, I wanted to play much more! And the only reason I had the privilege to go up on stage, play a few songs, (or the whole night if the bassist couldn't make it) obtain experience, and learn the whole craft of music was only because of my Father. He's the one that has taught me so much. I can sit here and name artists that I like or that has influenced me all day long.. But none of these artists that I like can compare to the people that I have met, talked to, played with, and know as good friends that have inspired me and influenced me in so many ways. My family, everyone in 20x, 59 South, Shawn Allen (himself), Jokers Wild, everyone that was ever in Wildcard, Tom Brown, Phil Fisher, Dave Clayton, Dennis Jones, Keven Baxter, and of course the man that has taught me how to be a professional bassist in many ways, Tom Battz. I owe him. It's an honor to play with Gary Glenn once more. He's really the best. He's been such a big influence on me that I've actually started to get into singing a couple of years ago. heh I don't really consider myself a good singer. But I sure have alot of fun with it. Vernon is one of the best keyboard players I've played on stage with! (and I've played with quite a few.) He's a great musician with an amazing ear, a fantastic family man, and a good friend. Doug Schramm is probably the most recent musician for me to play on stage with and get to know. And already I like him a whole lot! it's real easy to follow him and stay in the groove. I don't worry about "fighting" against the beat so much. We're starting to know how we play together as a rhythm section and develop a fantastic "drummer/bassist" relationship like no other. He's a very versatile musician, very generous person, and a good friend. I'm learning a whole lot from him already. And the honor to play with my Father and my brother on stage is always amazing. Pops is one of the best guitar players, and the only guitar player that I like to play on stage with. My brother Clint is one of the closest friends and most talented musician that I know in all honesty. Truly the best brother that anyone can ask for. I know I'm babbling.. But you see, all of these people that I know and mentioned are what makes a musician a musician, or even more. They're also what makes a band a great band. Or much more! This is why I think Gary Glenn and the 20x band is a great band. We're way more than musicians with each other. It's suppose to be that way really. And it's all thanks to Gary for keeping it alive. He's put everything into this band. His money, his time, his talent, his dedication, everything. It's because of him we're all here together doing what we all love and sharing it with people. Gary Glenn is truly a great man. Yeah, it would be cool to play with Garth Brooks. Yeah, It would absolutely be wonderful to back up Ronnie Dunn as his bassist. But I wouldn't trade Gary for any of them at all. I'll always be there to support and back up Gary in any band until the day he stops singing. I thank the Lord Jesus for all of these people, and for all of my experience. I'm absolutely a nobody without Him. Because I know there's a bigger picture to it all. And it has nothing to do with fame. |
